Glamourous Dresses

It’s the awards season, and there is nothing more glamorous than the Oscars. For the past 88 years, stars of the silver screen have sashayed down the red carpet in the very finest couture fashions. In the 40s and 50s some of the most memorable films starring the most beautiful actresses were made – Marilyn Monroe in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and How to Marry a Millionaire, Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Roman Holiday, and Vivien Leigh in Gone With the Wind to name a few. The women were the epitome of beauty, glamour and style, and what they wore influenced a whole generation. Hair was swept up and fastened high, or a shoulder-length wave played loosely around the ears. Skirts were full, but nipped in sharply at the waist, with tight bodices accentuating women’s curves. Often, dresses were strapless, but worn with elegant long gloves and luxurious wraps or short bolero jackets. We can still see the influence of these women today and the look is very much back in vogue in bridal wear.
